Notion introduces a calendar app to their line-up for managing events and meetings. Used side by side to Notion, here's a first look. Let's dig into the new release and how it affects Cron Calendar.
Notion has a new, well-sort-of, calendar app.
Notion acquired Cron Calendar in 2022 for an undisclosed amount and now they've taken the Cron Calendar experience and brought it closer to the Notion ecosystem. The plan ahead is to bring Notion closer to the ways you use Notion every single day with a new logo, new Notion database button and a vision for the future.
Notion have been teasing this for weeks and here's everything you need to know:
Cron Calendar was purchased by Notion in 2022.
Now, they have sunset the branding but not the features, functions & app. The old Cron Calendar name is now gone with a fresh lick of paint being Notion Calendar. The vision stays largely the same with Notion Calendar as they had with Cron, but the old orange logo disappears along with the solo app feel as it becomes part of the Notion ecosystem.
The new Notion calendar app lives next to Notion.
Notion Calendar largely doesn't change when it comes to the core functionality in comparison with what Cron Calendar had beforehand, but here's the major differences:
Raphael Schaad who was the founder at Cron is now the head of Notion Calendar meaning he's getting the lead on this new concept and vision ahead. As an excellent designer this is exciting to see how Notion will become closer to the experience than ever.
By the sounds of the release, they want Notion Calendar to be deeply integrated.
Notion Calendar is deeply integrated with your Notion workspace and all the other tools you’re using as part of your workflows — like Google Calendar, Zoom, and Google Meet. This could continue into weaving time into Notion and ways to extract the information that lives in Notion into the structured experience that is calendar management. So in general this is a good thing for Notion as people who want to manage meetings and book meetings can do this with powerful, growing Notion integrations.
Our vision is to bring the time layer eventually into all aspects of Notion (notes, projects, tasks), so that you have a unified way to manage all the things competing for your time. From trending reads, trending tools and beyond
